Gennessee's inside look at the making of Spring 2006

"Fly Away"

Within 2 minutes of doing vocals on this song, I knew it was our first single. Once I put the little radio effect on the lead vocal track, "Fly Away" became the biggest record any of us have ever worked on!!! It didn't take long for me to call up The Musicians(Ant Soprano, and Sean Winkle), to give the record a real alternative feel. This tracks allowed us to crossover to different markets, and stetched DogWood's fanbase incredibly.

"Favorite Song" feat. Cait La Dee

The story behind favorite song is a long one, but I'll give you the short version. The beat and the hook were down for almost a year before we finished it. DogWood recorded 3 great rap verses, discussing political issues and society in general. We felt it was "too preachy", compared to the uplifting vibes on the album..........We hit the drawing board, Wood recorded dozens of versions, none of them satisfying us because the beat and hook were so monsterous. Throughout the whole time, I had this melody stuck in my head.........we ran with it......LRoneous helped pen it.......and it truley became my favorite song!!!!

"Broken Dreams"

I was inspired for the tittle and hook of this song by a poster I always used to see growing up.....'The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"
If you are familiar with it, you know that it shows James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis sitting at the counter of a diner. This song expresses the hard luck conveyed in that picture, and on the ave in every hood.
It was conceived and done in a half of an hour with no writing involved whatsoever.

"Daddy's In A Love Machine" feat. Cait La Dee

Take a walk through the funkadelic world of your host, Mr. Speaks, and find yourself in "roller skates...hula-hoops, your brightest reds. and electric blues. A marketing genius, as well as a brilliant song writer (or not writer!!!), DogWood Speaks saw the potential of this record, as a true representation of his vibe and image, and he ran with it. The world has been falling in love with him ever since. AMEN
